Pilates Reformer looks intimidating the first time you see it, a frame, a carriage, springs, and straps. In practice, it is one of the most approachable ways to build strength at Red Light Method Commack, and a growing number of members driving in from Smithtown and Saint James start here.

What a Reformer class actually involves

Classes at our Commack studio are guided on screen by our instructor, Allison Beardsley, so you are never guessing what comes next. The Reformer carriage glides on a track, with spring tension adjusted to your level, low impact on your joints, but genuinely challenging for your core, legs, and posture.

The work builds strength and flexibility together, which is part of why members keep coming back. It improves posture and alignment, supports a strong foundation for everyday movement, and leaves most people more relaxed than when they walked in.

What your first class looks like

If you have never done Reformer work before, plan to start with a Level 1 class. Wear something you can move in, and expect a mix of standing, seated, and lying positions on the carriage. A few things help on day one:

  • No standing or planking on the Reformer until an instructor shows you how, for your own safety and the equipment's.
  • Start at Level 1, then move to Level 2 or 3 once the movements feel familiar.
  • Repeat classes rather than rushing ahead. Strength on the Reformer builds with time, not with difficulty alone.

Why Smithtown and Saint James members choose Reformer here

For members commuting from Smithtown, Saint James, and nearby parts of Long Island, a guided, on screen class removes the guesswork that keeps a lot of people from trying Pilates in the first place. You do not need prior experience, a home Reformer, or a private instructor. You need a studio nearby and forty five minutes on your calendar.

Many members pair a weekly Reformer class with Red Light Therapy and Power Plate on other days, using Reformer for strength and mobility, and the rest of the studio for recovery. That balance is exactly what the space was designed for.

Booking a class

Reformer classes are scheduled through the Red Light Method app alongside every other session type. Reserve your spot ahead of time, since class sizes are limited, and let a team member know if this is your first time so they can point you toward the right level.
